While women have an enormous impact on the wellbeing of their families and society, their potential is often not realised due to discriminatory social norms and other structural challenges. Despite the status of women having improved in recent decades, gender inequality in Malawi persists. In tea communities, this is reflected in the low percentage of women in leadership positions and unpaid care responsibilities falling on women.
